Please introduce yourself to our readers and tell us a little about your journey as a Korea-focused creator/community contributor.
“Hello! 안녕하세요! I’m Riya Choudhary from Delhi, and I am an active & passionate K-enthusiast. My journey began out of a pure love for the k-culture through k-dramas, which naturally evolved into sharing the vibrant Hallyu wave happening right around me. From being a crazy fan to coverage of Korean events to unboxing Korean merchandise and product milestones, my platform has become a space to celebrate, connect, and bring a slice of South Korea from specially-abled K-enthusiast sight to fellow enthusiasts.
What first inspired your interest in Korean culture and the Hallyu wave?
My initial spark came from the K-drama Boys Over Flowers, which introduced me to the Korean wave, and it naturally evolved me into a big K-pop fan. Whether it was the impeccable storytelling in K-dramas or the high-production value of Korean music, there was a distinct warmth, charm and aesthetic brilliance that immediately hooked me. Even if I didn’t understand the language at first, their music reached my heart. It felt more like discovering a whole new world of creativity, fashion & community that felt like home.
Was there a particular K-drama, K-pop group, event, or experience that deeply influenced your journey?
While many elements played a part, K-drama Boys Over Flowers and K-pop group SUPER JUNIOR have been massive inspirations for me. Because of them, I’m here. Seeing their artistry and finding solace in their music completely changed my life. Also being connected with fellow enthusiasts in Delhi and being a team member of Hallyuism, a website/platform promoting Korean culture in India, fueled my energy and gave me a space to be loved and also to interact and connect. Additionally, being selected as an Honorary Reporter for the Korea.net Honorary Reporter program has been a rewarding experience. Reviewing and sharing those personal perspectives bridges the gap between being a passive fan and a trusted voice in the k-community.
Your platform covers many Korean culture events and community experiences. What do you enjoy the most about creating this kind of content?
What I enjoy most is reliving those moments I witnessed through my lenses and sharing them through fan-centred edits. When I’m editing a POV reel or designing a carousel post, my goal is to make the viewer feel like they are witnessing what I saw right in front at the venue. Capturing the essence, vibe, fun, shared excitement and turning those fleeting moments into permanent digital memories is incredibly rewarding.
How has the Korean culture community influenced your personal or creative growth over the years?
The community has pushed me to grow in ways I never anticipated. Personally, it helped me learn how to connect, learn and collaborate. Korean culture has a big influence on my life. I got friends from different walks of life who were there in my highs and lows, connected through the same purpose – Korea. When I encountered it, I was a student, and now I’m a working professional, so over the years, I’ve learned a lot through the K-culture that shaped my life goals. It helped me live and also gave me a global mindset. Also, it made me confident by interacting with diverse groups of people, in India and abroad. Creatively, it helped me to sharpen my skills in videography, photography and narrative skills.
You’ve covered various K-events and projects. Which experience has been the most memorable for you so far?
I have attended many K-culture events like concerts, fanmeets, fairs, festivals, and each one of them was a one-of-a-kind experience for me. Without a doubt, attending the Aoora Meet-and-Greet in Delhi, that too as a media personnel on behalf of Hallyuism, is one of my most memorable experiences so far. Being in the crowd, while capturing the event and getting recognised by the artist himself, was an unforgettable experience. I’ve been a fan of Aoora, and it was my second time witnessing him live on stage, so towards the end of the fan interaction time, I gave Aoora a handmade gift, and his reaction said it all.
What challenges do Korea-focused creators/community contributors face today, especially internationally?
One of the biggest challenges is navigating through the changing trends by following our niche and standing out in the digital space while maintaining the original cultural authenticity. There are many creators, whether from India or abroad, who have created their audience through the content they shared. As international creators, we also face the challenge of access, whether that’s navigating regional availability for certain products/merchandise, securing media access for events, navigating the tickets and accessibility needs or managing algorithmic changes that can make it difficult for niche, passionate content to reach the right audience.
What aspects of Korean culture connect with you the most personally — music, language, food, storytelling, community, or something else?
The K-culture has this unique superpower to bring completely different people together under one roof. Beyond that, I am deeply connected to the different stories they portray in K-dramas and K-pop songs that contain high-energy aesthetics, addictive choreography, and relatable lyrics. It deeply resonates with me. K-pop & K-dramas are like a friend to me, who is there whenever I need them. It helped me sail through the different emotions and navigate through the phases of life.
How do you think Korean culture has impacted international communities and fans positively?
It has broken down geographical and linguistic barriers like nothing else in modern history. It has fostered immense cross-cultural empathy. Fans are listening to K-pop songs, watching k-dramas, buying K-products, actively learning a new language, understanding different social etiquettes, and building global friendships. Not only that, fans engage in meaningful works, donations by taking inspiration from the artists they listen to or maybe doing something to commemorate their favourites. K-culture-related events in our home country are also creating physical spaces for cultural exchange, joy, and expanding cross-cultural love.
If you could collaborate with any Korean artist, creator, or organization in the future, who would it be and why?
Honestly, everyone has their own charm, so I can’t choose one. I would love to collaborate with any Korean artist/creator/organization. But if I need to choose one, I’ll pick the artists that debuted under SM Entertainment (even if they aren’t under SM anymore). It would be a dream come true, as their music and journey have heavily shaped my life.
What motivates you to continue creating and contributing within the Korean culture space?
The warmth I feel from the K-culture is my ultimate fuel. I don’t know what’s in store for me in future as a fan, as a creator. When someone leaves a comment saying my reel helped them experience an event they couldn’t attend or it helped them to know more about the artist, it makes everything worth it. The constant evolution of the Hallyu wave ensures there is always a new story to tell, so I’m always ready to dive in and explore more. Anything about K-culture, I’d love to explore.
What advice would you give to people who want to start creating Korea-related content or become active in the community?
My biggest advice is to just be authentic and be you. Find what excites you the most and share it in your own way. Be it anything, music, drama, fashion, food, etc. Don’t think if it’ll work or not, just give it a try and learn from it. Find yourself. Be consistent because consistency is the key and is driven by genuine passion, and audiences can always spot authenticity, so they’ll surely connect better.
What are your future goals or dreams for your platform and creative journey?
From the start I never set a goal. I just followed my heart, and it led me to where I am. I just wish to be that raw creator, everyone loves to connect & resonate with. I want the fans to find out the content they can’t search on the internet, but find it on my platform. I want to expand into larger community-led initiatives, connecting with artists, bridging bigger collaborations between international fans and Korean brands, and continuing to elevate the standard of event reporting as an enthusiastic K-culture fan.
Lastly, is there a message you would like to share with readers and fellow Korean culture enthusiasts around the world?
To all the readers and fellow Hallyu fans: Be you, be true! I hope you find your true self while navigating the world of K-culture. Don’t let the pressure of others make you compromise your happiness. Don’t be hard on yourself. If you feel down, listen to your favourite artist or maybe tune into a K-drama that helps you heal. You never know who you’ll end up inspiring. Never shy away from expressing your passion, whether that’s singing or dancing over your favourite songs, holding up a lightstick, trying out a new outfit or skincare routine, or creating content of your own. Keep supporting the artists. Let’s continue to support each other and spread positivity all around. We are all in this together! Hwaiting!
